This Saturday evening (Nov. 20), the Casa Libre/Freedom House monthly Film Night will host a screening of Latino filmmaker/actor Jesus Nebot's award-winning film "NO TURNING BACK," and a discussion with Jesus about his stunning film and acting career.
The Casa Libre Monthly Film Nights are intended to provide homeless immigrant youth staying at the Casa Libre shelter, and invited youth from other shelters, the chance to meet with innovative film-makers, and see their films.
This month Jesus Nebot has agreed to screen his feature film "NO TURNING BACK." Jesus has starred in several television series. His recent acting credits include, among many others, "NYPD Blue" and NBC's "Boomtown." On stage, he was the lead character in Federico Garcia Lorca's "Blood Wedding" at the prestigious Los Angeles Theatre Center. In NO TURNING BACK, Pablo (Jesus Nebot) illegally immigrates to the United States in an attempt to offer a better future for his five-year old daughter Cristina. When a fatal accident forces them to run from the authorities, Pablo enlists the help of a story-hungry journalist (Linsay Price). As they run for their lives, they do whatever it takes to protect Cristina. Reviews have called the film mesmerizing, stunning, riveting, and unforgettable. NO TURNING BACK has won 21 international film festival awards, 16 for best feature. The film will screen in Spanish.
Casa Libre is a historic three-story Gothic mansion where Charlie Chaplain once lived and about fourteen homeless unaccompanied immigrant children now call home. It is located at 845 S. Lake Street, LA CA 90057 (3 blocks south of Wilshire, 1 block west of Alvarado).(Link to map). Our web site is www.casa-libre.org.
We will serve dinner at 7 PM. The screening will start at 8 PM. Youth from other shelters are invited to attend (Casa Libre can arrange transportation if necessary). Friends and supporters of Casa Libre are also invited to attend.
